Online Video

Online video has changed the form and function of the Internet, in addition to bringing in a new revenue stream for compelling content. This exercise exists to acclimate you to the fundamentals and options for distributing video content online.

objectives

Make an original video, of your creation, available (syndicated) online; create a video comment

requirements

*Remember to contact me for an alternative assignment if these requirements are not novel or challenging based on your experience*

Video must be of or created by you, exclusively for this assignment

The video must be embedded within a separate site than the video hosting service

Leave a video comment on another student's video using YouTube's "video response feature"

Tag both videos with descriptive tags and a written description

Select a video hosting service

Record some video and upload it to the video hosting service (some sites, like YouTube allow you upload directly from the site)

Tag your video and add a description

Embed the video within your blog

Login to YouTube and create a video response to another student's video (be sure to follow the above steps as well). NOTE: Contact the student to request that they approve your video response so it shows up properly

50 points possible

Up to 10 points for each requirement

Up to 10 points for the video response

Points off for cutting corners or other evidence of a lackluster effort

Creativity is welcome and encouraged: try editing the video, adding effects, recording it from a live stream or cell phone, or any other idea you have.

  1. Post a response to this exercise with a link to your blog post with the embedded video. (You can also use the "add video" feature if you used YouTube)
  2. Respond to at least one of your class colleague's submissions by replying to their comment on this assignment page.
  3. Rate this exercise and explain your rating with comments about specific strengths/ improvement ideas. Anonymous posts are perfectly acceptable, just log out of the site first.
